Montessori is a way of teaching which was established by Dr. Maria Montessori, an Italian physician. Montessori method was started more than a century ago.  This is a child-centric approach which was developed for educating children and has been transforming schools around the globe.  

Montessori Method promotes self-motivated growth for children and adolescents in all areas of their development—cognitive, emotional, social, and physical. Schools who follow Montessori way of teaching and provides an environment with plenty of materials for hands-on learning are called Montessori School. In India sometimes preschool and Montessori School are used synonymously which is not correct. Montessori Schools follow the Montessori methodologies. In Montessori School children are encouraged to focus on – and often stick with – activities that attract their interest. When you enter a Montessori classroom, you will find something different than traditional schools; you will often see specially designed learning materials are displayed in Montessori classrooms for children to work with.  Montessori schools provide experiential learning opportunities in oppose to the rote learning.

In Montessori system, learners are allowed to discover, learn, and progress at their own pace. They are given opportunities to practice, review, or move forward based on their own interests and capabilities, enabling them to take charge of their own learning.

Daisy Montessori School follows a curriculum that is intentionally grouped into 3-year cycles of learning. Montessori way of education respects the fact that learners develop and master exercises of practical life at different speeds and this development happens in uneven spurts. The environment and the teachers support the learner’s growth through all areas of the curriculum, to ensure that they are exposed to the full sequence of lessons in each area.

Finally, The most significant component of a Montessori education is the mixed age group of learners in each learning environment. Through the mixed group in the environment, the elders learn to take more responsibility and the younger ones get more exposures to model the elders. They recognize each individual’s needs parallelly with their responsibility to contribute to the community, learners get to exercise independence, but are also given opportunities to work with their peers and to support others when they are in need.
